Boards and Commissions
Join a board or commission! The City Commission relies on the approximate 70-volunteers that are appointed to the 19 different boards, commissions and committees (BCC). Each BCC has a different purpose and some require special skills or interests. However, they all help to shape the future of the community and in some cases working to implement portions of adopted plans. In some cases, the different BCC’s act on citizen requests associated with private property or make recommendations to the City Commission. Depending on the BCC terms range between two and five years. The roster provides the existing members names and when their terms expire.
In many cases the BCC meets monthly at a set date and time, however, there are BCC’s that meet less frequently or some that determine additional meetings are necessary to discuss an agenda item. Typically, membership on a BCC requires the individual to be a resident of the City of St. Joseph, however, there are some BCC’s that allow property or business owners to be members.
If you have a willingness to voluntarily serve your community in this capacity and have a particular interest or knowledge, please contact the City Clerk’s Office. To learn more about a specific board or commission, the agenda packets and meeting minutes can be found on the website. In some instances, there is a webpage that also provides information. An application for appointment can be found here.
