Sustainability Committee

About

The Sustainability Committee was officially created in September 2019 and is charged with researching opportunities to reduce the environmental footprint of City activities when possible, practical, and efficient and making recommendations to the City Commission and staff for consideration and implementation.

Meetings

The Sustainability Committee meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers, City Hall, 700 Broad St.

Membership

The Sustainability Committee is made up of seven members and one City Commissioner.  Members are residents that are appointed by the City Commission and serve a two-year term.

Want to get involved or get more sustainable in your home, office or neighborhood?  The City of St. Joseph is a certified Bee City Affiliate!  Consider joining in on the effort to sustain pollinators.  Or, consider reducing waste and enriching your soil through home composting.  

Michigan Green Communities Challenge - Bronze

Michigan Green Communities

The City of St Joseph was recognized for its environmental leadership by the statewide Michigan Green Communities program. As part of the annual Michigan Green Communities (MGC) Challenge, local governments are awarded bronze, silver, or gold seals of achievement reflecting community leadership in areas such as energy efficiency, climate adaptation and resilience, recycling, environmental justice, and more. The City achieved bronze status for exemplary action in multiple categories, including planning, energy efficiency, responsibly managing materials, and protecting and preserving water resources.
