Lighthouse tour season returns this month! Starting May 24th, stop by the Inner Light to chat with our friendly and knowledgeable docents, tour our exhibits on the main floor of the Inner Light, enjoy a guided walking tour along the North Pier, or even climb to the top of the Inner Light! Our 2024 Lecture Series marches on with a pair of upcoming presentations! To coincide with National Mental Health Awareness Month, Stephanie Kohler-Pagan from Lory’s Place will be presenting on Thursday, May 2nd. Join us at The Heritage as she presents the history of mental healthcare in Southwest Michigan, as well as the history of Lory’s Place. Doors and cash bar open at 6:00 PM, and the presentation in our Shepard Hall Ballroom begins at 7:00 PM. Can’t join us in person at The Heritage? Tune in on the May 2nd via Zoom with the passcode history. Zoom presentation will begin at 7:00 PM.

PROJECTS IN NEED OF SUPPORT
The Heath Company had a strong presence in Southwest Michigan for over 60 years. Our team of historians have been hard at work developing an exhibit showcasing the history of the Heath Company, which will feature a variety of artifacts from our Archives. Their project is nearly ready to put into production. The production costs for the The Heath Company Exhibit are estimated to be just under $1,000. According to the American Heart Association, more than 15% of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCAs) occur in a public location, and 9 in 10 cardiac arrest victims who receive a shock from an AED in the first minute live. The Heritage has an AED, however its battery is nearing the end of its lifespan. A replacement AED battery for our unit costs $460. Last summer, The Heritage team welcomed nearly 7,000 visitors into the Inner Light on St. Joseph’s North Pier. In keeping with our emphasis on safety, we would like to purchase a second AED to keep at the lighthouse so that we are prepared should one of our future guests require assistance.
