Lake Boulevard and Broad Street Resurfacing Project

Lake Blvd Paving

May 12, 2024 Update

Lake Boulevard is currently open to through traffic this weekend because it served as the detour route during the Blossomtime Grand Floral Parade.  On Monday, the road will be closed to through traffic again so that crews can continue replacing manhole castings.  Rieth-Riley informed the City that they intend to close the road one or two blocks at a time, progressing from north to south, until the manhole casting installation work is completed.

Resident’s and property owners should have access to their driveways except when crews are working in near proximity to them.  Please feel free to talk to the Abonmarche Inspector or the crew to determine if your driveway will be impacted as the work approaches your property.  On-street, overnight parking will continue to be allowed until the project is completely finished.  Rieth-Riley anticipates final completion of the work prior to Memorial Day weekend.

Last week, CSX informed the City that their work at the Broad Street Railroad Crossing was delayed, and then delayed again.  The latest word from CSX is the work will begin on Monday, May 13, and will be underway for several days; the crossing will remain closed over that time.  Fortunately, Rieth-Riley intends to keep Park Street, and access to and from the Lions Park Drive area open for the remainder of the project.

General Project Information

The Lake Boulevard and Broad Street Resurfacing Project is scheduled to commence on April 1, 2024.  The construction will include Lake Boulevard from Hatch Street to Ship Street and Broad Street from Lake Boulevard to State Street.  The reason the project is being undertaken is to resurface the pavement and to replace sidewalk ramps as needed to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The resurfacing work consists of a one-course (2” in depth) mill and overlay of hot mix asphalt (HMA) pavement.  The work is expected to be complete by early June.
