Boards and Commissions
Join a board or commission! The City Commission depends on approximately 70 volunteers appointed to 19 different boards, commissions, and committees (BCC). Each BCC serves a unique purpose, and some require specific skills or interests. All of them help shape the community's future and, in some cases, work to implement parts of adopted plans. Sometimes, BCCs respond to citizen requests related to private property or make recommendations to the City Commission. Terms vary from one to five years, depending on the BCC. The roster lists current members and their term expiration dates.
In many cases, the BCC meets monthly on a set date and time; however, some BCCs meet less frequently, while others determine that additional meetings are necessary to discuss specific agenda items. Typically, membership on a BCC requires the individual to be a resident of the City of St. Joseph; however, some BCCs allow property or business owners to be members.
If you have a willingness to voluntarily serve your community in this capacity and have a particular interest or knowledge, please contact the City Clerk’s Office. To learn more about a specific board or commission, you can find the agenda packets and meeting minutes on the website. In some cases, a web page also provides additional information. An application for appointment can be found here.
