Seeking a Contractor: Residential Rental Inspector

The City of St. Joseph is accepting resumes for a Residential Rental Inspector Contractor (Inspector). This position involves conducting an average of 40–60 residential rental inspections per month. The role includes a variety of routine and technical tasks related to scheduling, inspecting, and determining compliance with the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) and applicable City ordinances governing residential rental units.

The Inspector will work independently and report to the Inspections Department. This is a contract position and does not include a benefits package.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Basic knowledge of trades and experience in related work or inspections
  • Familiarity with the IPMC and relevant City ordinances
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with computers

A valid Michigan driver’s license is required.
