FALL FESTIVAL BRINGS BUSHELS OF ACTIVITIES TO ST. JOSEPH, MICH.

SEPT. 27 AND 28

 

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — Visitors to downtown St. Joseph, Mich. will find bushels of fun during the Fall Festival on Sept. 27 and 28.  The entertainment-packed weekend has something for everyone from couples seeking a fall color tour destination to families looking for activities that will enthrall toddlers to teens. 
 
Scheduled fun includes:
 
Sept. 27
The First Annual Rotary and Slumberland Great Bed Race, Lake Boulevard and Broad Street, 4:30 p.m.  Teams will race beds down the street to raise funds for the Benton Harbor Sunrise Rotary youth programs and Slumberland Furniture 40 Winks Foundation (a provider of mattresses and beds to children who need them).
 
“It’s Finally Friday,” 5 to 8 p.m. Participating downtown merchants and restaurants will offer giveaways, demonstrations, seasonal sales, entertainment, special beverages and foods to shoppers.
 
Sept. 28
Day on the Farm and More! downtown, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., sponsored by United Federal Credit Union. Visitors can buy locally grown produce, fall decorations, jams and baked goods at the Farmers Market. A petting zoo will delight children with goats, rabbits, ducks and other farm animals. Face painting and other family activities are also planned.
 
Great Pumpkin Rotary Race & Festival, Lake Boulevard at noon. Family-centric activities along the bluff include pumpkin decorating and games. Guests can participate in the race - each $10 ticket enters a numbered pumpkin in the race. The first pumpkin across the finish line wins. $10 entry fee benefits the Benton Harbor Sunrise Rotary youth programs and scholarships.
 
St. Joseph Wine Festival, Whirlpool Centennial Park, 4 to 9 p.m. This is a great opportunity for adults to sample vintages from more than a dozen Michigan wineries, listen to live music, enjoy foods from five, popular local eateries and watch an autumn sunset in a beautiful setting overlooking Lake Michigan. Visitors can purchase wine tastes for $1 or by-the-glass for $4 and up. Participating wineries: Chateau Grand Traverse, Ciccone Vineyard, Cody Kresta Vineyard & Winery, Contessa Wine Cellars, Domaine Berrien Cellars, Fenn Valley Vineyards, Free Run Cellars, Leelanau Cellars, Lemon Creek Winery, Mackinaw Trail Winery, Oceana Winery, Round Barn Winery, St. Julian Wine Co., Tabor Hill Winery, Warner Vineyards and White Pine Winery.  Food available for purchase from The American Kitchen, Bistro on the Boulevard, Coach’s Bar & Grill, Players Bar & Grille and Schu’s Grill & Bar.  Wine Festival sponsors include 98.3 the Coast, WSJM, Beaudoin Electrical Construction and the City of St. Joseph.
 
City of St. Joseph Public Art Auction, Whirlpool Centennial Park, 6 to 7 p.m. In conjunction with the Wine Festival, the city will auction 27 sculptures from the 2013 “All Aboard” public art exhibit. Professional Auctioneer Jerry Glassman will create lively bidding wars for the one-of-a-kind planes, trains and helicopters painted by regional artists (visit stjosephpublicart.com to see the designs). Funds raised will help defray art exhibit costs.
