The City of St. Joseph is seeking a skilled professional for the position of Building Inspector.

Under the direction of the Building Administrator, the building inspector ensures the safety of all persons in the City of St. Joseph relating to the construction of all commercial and residential structures, enforces compliance of current codes and conducts inspections to assure compliance with all City of St. Joseph building codes and zoning ordinances. This position highly utilizes the skills required to effectively communicate with citizens, contractors, and developers when providing technical expertise, plan review services, reviewing permit requests, conducting site inspections, and enforcing compliance.  Requirements include, but not limited to an Associate's Degree or 2 years of college from an accredited college with major course work in construction, planning, or a related field, minimum of four years of responsible working experience, or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.  State of Michigan registered Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer is required or the or ability to acquire within agreed time frame and the ability to maintain certified status throughout employment.  ICC certification as a Building Inspector and Plan Reviewer is desirable.  In addition to a competitive compensation package, the City of St. Joseph has a defined benefit plan for its retirement benefits, offers great medical, dental and vision benefits and more!  Application and complete job description are available online at   To apply please submit application/resume to HR Department, 700 Broad St., St. Joseph, MI 49085 or to This email address is being protected from spambots.
