The library is jointly operated by the City and St. Joseph Charter Township under a contract. Library cards are free for City residents, as are Michi-cards which allow the use of any participating library in the State of Michigan. Internet service and copiers are available.

Effective January 1, 2014, the hours of operation for the St. Joseph Library will be as follows:
• Monday: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
• Tuesday:10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
• Wednesday:10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
• Thursday: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. * (Thursday hours will be different from January-May for special project)
• Friday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
• Saturday:10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
• Sunday: Closed

The Board also voted on a temporary proposed change at their September meeting to operating hours for a much needed special inventory project. The library will be closed to the public on Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. from January through May. The library will reopen on Thursday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. during the course of the project.
