Primary Election Tuesday, August 7th
On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, the City of St. Joseph will hold a Primary Election to select Delegates to the County Convention, as well as candidates for the November General Election, including U.S. Senator, U.S. 6th Congressional District Representative, State 79th Legislative District Legislature, the County 5th District Commissioner and other Berrien County local offices. In addition, Berrien County has the following three millage renewal proposals on the ballot; Law Enforcement and Public Safety, 911 Emergency System and Senior Centers.
Since this is a primary election, please remember that you can only vote for members of one political party in partisan races. All races on the August 7, 2012 are partisan races; please vote for either the Republican or Democratic section of the ballot only. Do not crossover and vote a ‘split ticket’. Doing so will invalidate the partisan side of your ballot.
We will be using our same Optical Scan equipment; to vote your ballot simply draw a line to connect the ends of an arrow to vote for the candidate of your choice. The AutoMark will be available to aid voters with disabilities to mark/vote their ballot independently. The AutoMark is equipped to accommodate personal sip and puff, rocker paddle and foot pedal devices. Please let the elections inspectors know if you wish to use this equipment.
The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Please take note our polling locations changed in November 2009 when we combined six precincts into the following three precincts:
Precinct 1 – Library – 500 Market Street
Precinct 2 – Howard Ice Arena – 2414 Willa Drive
Precinct 3 – Zion Evangelical UCC Church – 3001 Veronica Drive
For information on how to obtain an absent voter ballot, confirm your registration, check your polling location or work as an election inspector at the polls, please call the City Clerk’s Office at 983-6325.
You may also check your voter status or polling location at www.sjcity.com; just click on the Michigan Voter Information Center link, than enter your voter information.
See you at the polls!
