ST. JOSEPH – The Writer’s Studio at the Box Factory for the Arts will have a sale of Maids of the Mist fountain artwork at the St. Joseph Antiques on the Bluff event, Sunday, Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Booth #25 next to the fountain. The artwork was donated by family of the late Arlys Derrick.

Derrick was the Focus Editor at The Herald-Palladium until 1991. She wrote an award-winning article about the history of the fountain in Lake Bluff Park in June, 1974 at the time of its restoration. After that article she began collecting and was gifted artwork featuring the fountain, according to family members.

After her death in 2009, the family donated the artwork to the Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph to be sold and the benefits used for writing programs.

The artwork includes paintings and photography by many local artists including, Marie Witte, Ed Zyniewicz, Tom Scheffler, Berry Bingham, Frank Lowe, Ed Lattimer, Ken KcKeown, Marie Batson, Juanita Cupp and Harrison Viet. There are also smaller pieces of art and notecards, all depicting images of the fountain.

For more information, contact the Box Factory for the Arts at (269) 983-3688 during normal gallery hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon. – Sat. and 1-4 Sun.
