Peggy Getty has been a city resident since 2011 and was first elected to the City Commission in November 2017. 

Peggy GettyCommissioner Getty attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she majored in Education. She is currently employed by Wellsoft Corporation. In addition to her professional responsibilities, Peggy has volunteered with SWMSO and Special Olympics in St Joseph. Prior to moving to St Joseph, she was a volunteer for the USO and St. Elizabeth’s in Indianapolis, Indiana. 

In first announcing her candidacy, Peggy states, "I look forward to representing the people of St. Joseph and the wonderful new ideas they have for problem-solving.  In addition, I enjoy speaking with our residents and sharing their ideas of ways we can continue to improve our city." 

Commissioner Getty's top priority includes being a voice for the residents.  Specifically, as a Commissioner, Peggy is committed to:

1. Term Limits
2. Use of Social Media to improve communications with residents
3  Encourage greater interest and participation in local issues by young adults
4. Work with our residents to continue to find ways that we can improve our community and be welcoming to all.
 
Peggy is married to Michael Getty (attorney with Hunt Soedhoeff) and they have 2 children. Michael is their oldest son and is employed at Lakeland Hospital. Michael’s wife, Mallory, is employed at Lincoln Elementary and, Jude, their son, attends Lincoln Elementary School as well. Jeff is their second child and he is a Marine Veteran who teaches in Indianapolis. Jeff’s wife, Aimee, works with a software company and their son, Solly, was born in November.
 
In her spare time, Peggy enjoys cooking, reading, and knitting. Her favorite fitness-related activities include bike riding and walking. You can often spot Peggy walking their dog, Seamus, throughout the downtown area.
